The other day Joe and I were talking about the horses and their affinity for the mud. We agreed that above all else, horses want to be horses, which sometimes means rolling in the mud. Then Joe said, “A horse without a rider is still a horse.” I nodded and smiled thinking “so true”. I was glad our horses get plenty of time to be horses. Then Joe finished his thought, “...but a rider without a horse is just a person”.
I never want to be just a person! I’m a rider. We are all riders! Being a rider is one of the ways we define ourselves, at least I do. So thank you to Penny and Addie for allowing me to be so much more than I would be without you. I know you are still horses, even without me, but without you, I am certainly dimished.
