I rarely say that. I am a summer person, a Leo, of Mediterranean descent, I love the sun. Larry has accused me of being part lizard because whenever the sun shines I sit out (not always on a rock) and soak it in. I lived in New Orleans and never complained of the heat. I count the days to summer. But...
I’m at the point where I have had enough. This has been a wickedly hot and humid summer. It has been consistently hot, no breaks. It is too hot for the horses and too hot to ride pleasantly. Most days I plan to wait till evening when it cools bit, but it only cools a little and only just before dawn. Why can’t it just be nice?
Tomorrow I am having some new fans installed in my barn. The barn is very well ventilated and situated so that if there is any breeze at all it wafts nicely down the aisle. But the breeze doesn’t always circulate into the stalls the way I would like (good for winter when the horses are in most, but bad for summer, even though they are in so little). The fans should help circulate the air in the stalls a bit better. And, more importantly, I feel that the installation of a method to partially deal with the heat will most likely bring about its end. That’s just how life works. It should cool after tomorrow, just when I am more ready to fight the heat and humidity. But that’s ok, there will be other hot days and I will be ready.
I took a look at our website and noticed that most of the portraits of the horses are from winter, they have blankets on... Do I even remember them needing blankets?????..........................no, I do not.
Stay hydrated!
